We point out one of the most famous and historic bar in Rome… you can’t said to be Roman or to have visited Trastevere without taking a break at San Calisto Bar.
It is located, since about 70 years, near the amazing Piazza di Santa Maria in Trastevere, in the heart of the district. It is a bar where time has stopped, it is a genuine Roman place, one of those that are gradually disappearing. The décor is still the original and the orders are shouted strictly in Roman dialect by the owner seated at the cash desk to the opposite counter.
There you’ll find every kind of people! Artists, pseudo-artists, intellectuals, pseudo-intellectuals, alcohol lovers, tourists, Romans and aged people attached to their neighborhood bar.
In summer the bar is the heart of Trastevere night life but it survives even in winter when brave customers, hooded and cold seated at their table warm themselves with mulled wine, bitter drinks and the inevitable Peroni beer, a sign of recognition of a DOC “sancallistiano”!
Despite the central location the bar still has affordable prices and we suggest you to taste hot chocolate in winter and ice creams in summer. You’ll find few tastes but all of prime quality!
