Choose to have everything close at hand, book your Bed & Breakfast Piazza del Popolo in the heart of Rome.
Piazza del Popolo can be considered the very centre of the city, maybe the most strategic starting point to visit Rome, its monuments and its attractions. This is why it is definitely convenient to stay in a Bed and Breakfast Piazza del Popolo during your holiday in the Italian capital.
One way to get to this famous square is by Porta del Popolo, that is one of the survived gates of the ancient Aurelian Walls. Its original name was Porta Flaminia because it is located in Via Flaminia, which starts near the Altare della Patria (Altar of the Fatherland). The external facade was commissioned by Pius IV to Michelangelo, who then gave the task to Nanni di Baccio Bigio. The latter built the gate between 1562 and 1565 drawing inspiration from the Arch of Titus. The inner facade was built by Gian Lorenzo Bernini for Pope Alexander VII to welcome Queen Christina of Sweden to Rome, as the inscription and the Pope’s coat of arms remind.
