The Magic Door at Piazza Vittorio Roma
In time of economic crisis, converting metal into gold can certainly turn out to be useful!
Maybe not everybody knows that in Vittorio Square, in the heart of Rome, there is a magic door…
On the architrave and the door frame you can see strange marks and inscriptions, but the really sensational thing is that the Alchemy Gate keeps the secrets of the philosophers’ stone, the famous stone that has the power to convert plain metal into sparkling gold.
The magic door, located in Vittorio Square, has a strong symbolic value as a monument, and is the only survivor of the five gates of the Villa that once belonged to Marquis Massimiliano di Palombara, on the Esquiline Hill.
For many years the door has been exposed to weather conditions, causing the deterioration of it, and only after the Great Jubilee in 2000 it has been salvaged and appreciated.
The Alchemy Gate, now walled up, led to the laboratory of the Marquis.
